The Story Behind Compassionate Wings

From Experience to Vision, From Vision to Action

At just 14 years old, Bishop Kenny Abdulsalam’s life was turned upside down. Forced to leave home with nowhere to turn, he found himself living in an abandoned school building. Each day became a struggle for survival, including searching for food and facing the painful uncertainty of being without a safe place to call home.

Those experiences stayed with Kenny and gave him a lifelong understanding of what it means to feel hungry, displaced, afraid, and forgotten.

Years later, as Kenny shared those experiences with Rev. Loutrecia Abdulsalam, she began envisioning a way to transform compassion into organized action. Loutrecia conceived the idea for the nonprofit that would become Compassionate Wings of Hope, organized its formation, and completed the work necessary to formally register the organization.

Together, Bishop Kenny Abdulsalam and Rev. Loutrecia Abdulsalam became the co-founders of Compassionate Wings of Hope International Foundation Inc.—bringing together lived experience, vision, faith, and a shared commitment to serve people in need.

Compassion Put Into Action

Compassionate Wings of Hope International Foundation Inc. was established to serve individuals and families facing hardship with dignity, practical assistance, encouragement, and hope. Through outreach initiatives, food assistance, community support, mentoring, and other programs, the organization seeks to meet people where they are and remind them that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.

Bishop Kenny’s personal experiences bring a deeply lived perspective to the mission. He understands firsthand what it means to face hunger, uncertainty, and the feeling of being forgotten.

“I know what it’s like to be hungry, scared, and forgotten, but I also know what it’s like to see light in the darkness.”

Rev. Loutrecia’s vision turned compassion into an organized mission. From conceiving the idea and developing the organization’s identity to organizing and registering the nonprofit, her work helped establish the foundation through which that mission could reach others.

Together, Bishop Kenny and Rev. Loutrecia Abdulsalam continue the work they founded—transforming experience, compassion, and faith into meaningful service and creating pathways of hope for those facing difficult circumstances.
